Space:1999 was a British science fiction television series that aired from 1975 to 1977. The premise of the show was that a nuclear explosion on the Moon in 1999 caused it to leave Earth's orbit and drift through space, taking the inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha with it. One of the main features of Moonbase Alpha was the Launch Pad, where various spacecraft were stored and launched for exploration and rescue missions. The Launch Pad was located on the far side of the Moonbase, away from the main living and working areas, and had a retractable roof that opened when a spacecraft was ready to launch. The Launch Pad was also equipped with a magnetic rail system that accelerated the spacecraft to a sufficient speed for liftoff.

communications posts
Moonbase is equipped with communications posts that allow the crew to stay in touch with each other and with Earth.
These posts are located in strategic places such as corridors and rooms, and display important information such as
alerts, schedules, news and messages. The posts also have a microphone and a speaker that enable voice communication
with the central control room or other posts. The communications posts are essential for the smooth operation of
Moonbase and the safety of the crew.

On September 11th, Area One burnt itself out in a magnetic sub surface fire storm
The area was continually monitored by automatic systems; in early September 1999, a sharp rise in heat
and a 20-fold increase in magnetic field was detected, although radiation levels remained normal.

Breakaway
Moonbase Alpha is a science fiction series set in the year 1999, when a nuclear waste explosion on the far side of the moon sends the lunar base and its crew out of Earth's orbit and into a journey across the solar system. Episode 1, Breakaway, introduces the main characters and the premise of the show, as Commander John Koenig arrives at Moonbase Alpha to investigate the mysterious deaths of the astronauts working on the nuclear waste disposal area. He soon discovers that the nuclear waste is unstable and could cause a massive chain reaction that would destroy the moon and endanger the Earth. He decides to evacuate the base, but it is too late. The explosion propels the moon out of orbit, leaving the 311 survivors stranded in space with no way to return home.
MoonBase Alpha
Moonbase Alpha is a lunar outpost that serves as a research and exploration facility for humanity. It was established by a multinational consortium of space agencies and private companies. The base is located near the south pole of the moon, where there is abundant sunlight and water ice. The base consists of several modules that provide living and working spaces for the crew, as well as a rover garage, a solar farm, a radio telescope, and a launch pad. The base is also equipped with a nuclear reactor and a fusion reactor to
provide power and propulsion. The main goals of Moonbase Alpha are to study the lunar environment,
test new technologies, and prepare for future missions to Mars and beyond.
